Answer to research questions2,3
Hello! Today, I'm going to answer to my research questions②③.
2. How many people identify themselves as feminists in Japan?
I assumed there were few people who identify themselves as a feminist because feminism is not familiar with Japanese people, in my opinion. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the specific data that shows how must Japanese people identify themselves as a feminist. Instead of it, I introduce an interesting article about self-identity as a feminist. This article shows us how Japanese people think about being feminists.
Is feminism taboo in japan? | read. (2015, October 20). Retrieved July 16, 2017, from

From this article, I can understand what kind of meaning declaring "I am a feminist." has in Japan. In fact, if I have to declare being a feminist now, it is embarrassing. However, this feeling is exactly one kind of cause that makes a distance between us and feminism, gender equality.
3. How many people identify themselves as feminists in the US?
In contrast, in the U.S, there are much more people who identify themselves as a feminist compared with Japanese people. However, the data I found was surprising for me.
This is the article.
Greenfield, B. (2017, March 08). Only 1 in 3 Women Identify as Feminists - Despite 'Feminist' Beliefs. Retrieved July 16, 2017, from

According to it, Yahoo online survey questioned 634 women those who are over the age of 18. In this survey, only 33% of the women responded they were feminists. Surprisingly, it was less than women who answered "non-feminists." 38% of the women who didn't consider to be a feminist said "Feminism movement is too extreme." or "Feminism supports many other causes such as LGBT-right or reproductive freedom." as a reason.
Furthermore, 55% of the women who are not feminists (including the women who answered "not sure") said feminists are "loud and aggressive" as a stereotypical perspective about feminists. According to these surprising facts, I can understand feminism is not always supported even in the U.S. which is one of the most developed country. Actually, I agree the opinion feminism related to many other issues like abortion right or LGBT. I can understand it might be controversial.
Through these two questions, I can understand the current situation about "being feminists" in Japan and the U.S. I"ll keep researching!
Thank you for reading.

I do feel that both men and women should be treated equally, and be given the same opportunities, but sometimes I spot “excess” feminism. There are still places where women are given less opportunities, and surprisingly in many big and famous Japanese companies. (There was a case were a women was suddenly told to write a “voluntary retirement paper”, because she had grown up male senior colleagues, and that she would not be given any more jobs, although she had very high skills) And I also think some people are annoyed with the “ladies first“ culture, so how one feels about this issue depends on their ways of thinking.
