Hello! I'm sorry for interrupting research questions, but I want to share the result of my feminism survey with you!
Thank you for your cooperation.
At first, this is the basic data.
I got 23 answers all from Japanese. Everyone but one person who answered my survey were female and 19 to 20 years old.
Let's check each answer!
Q1. Do you know the word feminism?
About half of the people know feminism, but rest half don't.
Q2. Do you self-identity as s feminist?
Most people answered "No" or "Not sure" Actually it was only one person who identified herself as a feminist.
Q3. If there is a movement that encourage feminism, would you like to participate it?
Most people didn't want to participate in feminism movement.
Q4. Do you think these examples show inequality?
・Women's only train
・Ladies day (a discount system for only men at movie theater, restaurants)
・difference of marriageable age(men 18, women 16)
*These three choices are all common in Japan.
Difference of marriageable age was chosen by more than 55% of the answerers.
Q5. What do you think about abortion right?
Most people agreed with the opinion abortion right should be accepted. However, abortion issues are sometimes related to religion. So, it may be difficult to think as our own issues.
Q6. Do you think we should be able to do the same jobs regardless of gender?
Half answered "Yes" and the other half were "No." As a reason, 19-year-old girl said "There are the huge gap in terms of physical power." and 20-year-old girl said " The gender bias toward job should be eliminated. (Ex. Fire fighters are considered to be masculine, Cheer dancers are considered to be feminine etc)"
Q7.Have you found some gender inequality in media like movies?
Each answer were almost same number. As an example, 19-year girl said "In horror movie, men tend to be killed instantly, but on the other hand, women tend to be afflicted for a long time."
This survey was very interesting and helpful for me. These answer I could got were all from Japanese and teenagers. However, i think it is the real of the current situation in Japan. Feminism is not so familiar to young people and they are not so interested in it. In fact, I was also the one didn't know well about feminism, gender issues before starting research. However, gender issues should be known and discussed by everyone including young people. In order to achieve it, feminism is one of good way to think about them. I hope more people will be interested in feminism!
